Courageous Advocacy

We are courageous advocates for the common good - locally, nationally and globally. 'Courageous advocacy’, enables our pupils and our school community to develop a greater awareness of the challenges others face in life and how they, as individuals, can support causes and make a difference in our school community, local community and further afield.

We recognise that life is full of ups and downs and, at times, all people will face challenges that need help and support in overcoming. As outlined in our school vision, we recognise the limitless potential of every member of our school and we nurture their unique talents so that all can shine in their classrooms and in their wider communities.

We take time to reflect upon and to appreciate how fortunate we are to be part of such a nurturing school environment, surrounded by supportive peers and staff, who allow us to live life in all its fullness and to flourish as individuals.

Supporting a wide number of charities, locally, nationally and globally, is an integral part of life at Harrietsham Church of England Primary School. Staff, children and parents regularly support and organise fundraising events, with children even suggesting and organising events of their own.

In recent years, we have carried out a range of different fundraising events to support many amazing causes, some of which include:

  • The Children's Society; Christingle
  • Comic Relief;
  • Children in Need;
  • Macmillan;
  • The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
  • Food bank for our local church, Saint John the Baptist (Harrietsham) and our own community

Our children have an excellent grasp of the meaning of belonging to a local and global community and the sense of responsibility that comes with belonging. They develop their ability to empathise and to make a small sacrifice to benefit others. Together, we consider the beauty and fragility of our environment, the actions we take, and the impact these actions may have on the well-being of everyone. Our school community and curriculum actively embraces a responsibility for the world in which we live. We embrace our value of 'Fellowship' to empower our different pupils groups, including our 'School Action Squad', to make an active difference in our community. We are diligent to show our connection with, and care for, the world in which we all live and we do all we can to care for the people who live in it.
