Welcome to Squirrels Class!

My name is Miss Ashwood and I am the class teacher for Squirrels Class. I hope you have all had a lovely summer and I look forward to hearing all about them in September. In Squirrels we will be joined by the lovely Mrs Kent (Monday and Friday) and Mrs Nichols (Tuesday - Thursday).

What will we be learning in Year 1?

In Squirrels class, we will be following the same scheme of work as our fellow Year 1 class; Hedgehogs.

We will be building upon the key skills taught in Reception, particularly elements of Mathematics and Literacy. We aim to ensure that the children are fully engaged in their learning by making lessons interactive and fun through a range of intriguing topics.

In Squirrels class we love to see and hear children reading and encourage children to read as much as possible in and outside of their learning time to help broaden their vocabulary.

Children will be given weekly tasks and spellings to complete at home via Tapestry as well as being assigned a school reading book to read on our new e-book portal. We ask that reading journals are brought to school every day.

Our first topic we will be looking at is ‘This is me!’ For more information about what we are learning please head to our curriculum overview that is updated termly.
