Welcome to Hedgehogs Class

Hello! We are Mrs Walker and Mrs Cheel, and we are the class teachers for Hedgehogs Class. Mrs Walker will be your teacher on Mondays to Thursdays. Mrs Cheel will be teaching you on Fridays. We hope you have all had a lovely summer and we look forward to hearing all about your adventures in September. In Hedgehogs we will be joined by the lovely Miss Brown and Mrs Jones.

What will we be learning in Year 1?

In Hedgehogs class, we will be following the same scheme of work as our fellow Year 1 class; Squirrels.

We will be building upon the key skills taught in Reception, particularly elements of Mathematics and Literacy. We aim to ensure that the children are fully engaged in their learning by making lessons interactive and fun through a range of intriguing topics.

In Hedgehog class we love to see and hear children reading and encourage children to read as much as possible in and outside of their learning time to help broaden their vocabulary.

Children will be given weekly tasks and spellings to complete at home via Tapestry as well as being assigned a school reading book to read on our new e-book portal. We ask that reading journals are brought to school every day.

Our first topic we will be looking at is ‘This is me!’ For more information about what we are learning please head to our curriculum overview that is updated termly.
