Home and School Agreement

A Home School Agreement is a statement explaining our school aims, values, policies and procedures, our responsibilities towards our pupils, the responsibilities of our pupil's parents, and what's expected of pupils.

At Harrietsham Church of England Primary School, we recognise each child as an individual, and aim to give all children every opportunity to realise their full potential. We believe that a close partnership between the school, parents and the child is essential if we are to achieve this aim.

It is therefore an expectation that all parents who wish their children to attend Harrietsham Church of England Primary School will sign up to our Home School Agreement.

We also ask parents to ensure they share the Home School Agreement with their child, and we will also discuss this in school.

As a school, we agree to:

  • Provide a safe, happy, predictable and mutually respectful environment so that everyone can reach their full potential.
  • Provide a stimulating learning environment where our Christian ethos and values are promoted and respected by everyone.
  • Ensure that all adults are ‘Strong on Boundaries, Big on Heart’ – helping our children to reach our high expectations whilst keeping them emotionally safe, ensuring they are all welcomed into our school family and feel they belong here.
  • Nurture our children and build positive relationships with all of them.
  • Provide a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum which challenges our children and meets the needs of all, fully engaging them in their learning and enabling them to reach their full potential.
  • Prioritise our children’s personal development as well as their academic success – encouraging our children to develop into courageous advocates of their future.
  • Keep parents / carers informed about their child’s termly curriculum, their attainment and progress and their behaviour.
  • Set regular and appropriate Home Learning opportunities.
  • Celebrate individual children’s efforts, achievements, talents and successes.
  • Encourage children to take care of their surroundings and of others around them.
  • Ensure children’s physical and social well-being at all times.
  • Allow children safe and secure use of the Internet through a combination of site filtering, supervision and fostering a responsible attitude in all children, in partnership with parents.
  • Fully discharge our Safeguarding responsibilities with sensitivity and rigour.
  • Welcome parents / carers into the life of the school and give them every opportunity to play an active part in their children’s education.

We ask our parents to agree to:

  • Ensure my child is at school on time and collected on time.
  • Ensure that my child attends school regularly, following the Schools Attendance Policy, so that my child takes full advantage of the curriculum.
  • Contact the school at the beginning of the day of my child is absent.
  • Support my child in keeping to the schools high behaviour expectations. If my child has difficulty with this, I will support the school so that we can work together to find a way forward to help my child.
  • Ensure my child is considerate and respectful to all members of our community and support the safety procedures which operate in school and on trips/ visits.
  • Support my child in understanding how to respond appropriately to reasonable requests made by adults.
  • Inform the school promptly if there are any problems that may affect my child’s learning or attendance.
  • Speak to the class teacher in the first instance if I have a concern and use the appropriate escalation route to achieve a resolution to that concern ( rather than via other means eg Social media / WhatsApp).
  • Help my child to be organised with the equipment they need.
  • Ensure I support the School’s Uniform Policy by making sure my child wears the correct uniform (which is clearly labelled with their name).
  • Support my child with Home Learning, including reading, spellings and times tables.
  • Attend parent/ teacher meetings and other opportunities provided by the school to support my child’s learning.
  • Respect and trust the decisions made by the school regarding my child’s provision and speak to us if this is tricky.
  • Read and respond when necessary to communication which comes from the school.
  • Support the School’s Social Media Policy in terms of my own and my child’s behaviour online, which could upset, offend or threaten a member of the school community.
  • Use photographs and recordings from school events responsibly, for my own personal use and only of my child.
  • Follow the expectations of parental conduct.

We ask our children to agree to:

  • Come to school ready to learn and on time.
  • Wear the correct school uniform.
  • Demonstrate the school values and follow the school rules at all times.
  • Respond appropriately to reasonable requests.
  • Be respectful and considerate at all times to everyone, respecting the beliefs and cultures of others in school.
  • Give my best effort in lessons.
  • Always try to complete Home Learning to the best of my ability and bring it back to school at the right time.
  • Tell my teacher if I have a problem or if I am struggling or need help.
  • Help to look after our school and the people in it.
  • Always try to make sure that I have the right equipment in school on the right days.
  • Use the internet safely and to think about my behaviour online so that I won’t upset, offend or threaten a member of the school community.
